Madurai : A 30-year-old painter was allegedly beaten to death by his younger brother after he consumed two liquor bottles kept at home without his knowledge in the Karuppayurani area of Madurai on Saturday night. Police identified the deceased as Azhagar of Othaveedu Pillaiyar Koil Street in Karuppayurani. His younger brother, Ganesan, a daily wage labourer, was arrested in connection with the murder. Ganesan had reportedly kept four liquor bottles at home, but Azhagar, who was heavily intoxicated, consumed two of them. This triggered an argument between the brothers. She alerted the police. Police arrested Ganesan and seized the iron rod allegedly used in the crime. The body was sent for postmortem examination. Anna Nagar police registered a case and further investigation is underway.
The brothers had consumed alcohol near their house on Saturday night, according to police. Their mother, Karuppayi, returned home on Sunday morning after visiting a relative and found Azhagar lying in a pool of blood.
