He said the protest was intended to send a strong message to the government about the need to preserve the sacred forest and prevent further environmental damage. KALYAN: The Youth Congress staged an unusual protest in Kalyan’s marketplace against tree felling in the sacred forests of Bhimashankar, with activists dressed as Lord Shiva, Goddess Kali and demons performing a fiery dance to draw attention to the issue. District Youth Congress president Japjeet Singh criticised the BJP-led government over the issue, accusing it of failing to protect the region’s forest wealth.
The protest, organised by the Youth Congress, featured a performance titled ‘Mahataandav’, with activists presenting an ‘Aghori’ dance and fire-based acts to convey their opposition to the destruction of forest cover. Through the dramatic display, the protesters sought to highlight the ecological and religious significance of the Bhimashankar forest and urge the government to stop the tree felling. Referring to Lord Shiva’s third eye, Singh warned that the government should take the issue seriously and halt the tree felling. He invoked the symbolism of Shiva’s destructive power to underline the protesters’ anger.
