Bengaluru: A desperate bid to escape after being caught stealing a motorcycle ended with a suspected thief jumping from a shop terrace and suffering serious injuries at Kannur village, Bengaluru East taluk, in the early hours of Oct 31. The drama unfolded around 6.15am when Narayana (40), who runs Maruti Tent House and a cement business, was alerted by his employee Dhanraj about a man pushing a motorcycle away after breaking its lock.
The motorcycle, bearing registration number KA-03-KD-7065, belonged to Ajmal Pasha, a scrap godown owner, who had lent it to his employee Uttam for work. Narayana immediately dialled emergency helpline 112 and arranged to take the injured man to a clinic in Yelahanka with the help of two workers. Narayana could not establish his identity, though villagers believed he was a Nepal national aged around 45.
Narayana rushed out and spotted the suspect wheeling away a Bajaj Pulsar parked outside his tent house. Cornered by Narayana, the suspect abandoned the motorcycle, shouted at him and bolted up the stairs of the tent house. Despite repeated requests to come down, the man refused. Instead, he made a risky escape attempt by jumping from the terrace, crashing to the ground and sustaining injuries to his head and other parts of his body. The mystery deepened when a group of unidentified men arrived at the clinic, claimed to be the suspect’s cousins, and whisked him away after treatment.
