Bengaluru: After years of delay, work on Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC) or Peripheral Ring Road-1 is finally set to begin, with around 8km of the 21.5km Package 1 stretch cleared and ready for construction, BBC chairperson LK Atheeq said. With land acquisition for PRR-1 facing legal challenges in the high court, Atheeq said stay orders applied to specific survey numbers. “We will build the entire 21.5km of Package 1 to begin with. Atheeq said preparations were underway to invite tenders for Package 2, from Kogilu near Yelahanka to Old Madras Road. Around 60-70% of the land acquisition for Package 2 and 35% for Package 3 have been completed.
The contractor is setting up a casting yard and bringing in machinery for precast work, Atheeq said after inspecting the area last week. We will then resolve the issues of compensation,” he said. “We will be calling tenders when we have about 50% of the land and ensuring it is 80% before the work is awarded,” he said.
The cleared stretches are largely around Shivaram Karanth Layout and nearby areas. Work could proceed on acquired private land where compensation had been paid. As we show progress, we will hopefully have more clarity from the high court.
Atheeq ruled out dropping the proposed NICE integration from BBC near Madavara despite opposition from landowners. However, acquisition for the 3km NICE integration could take longer as the issues had to be resolved, he added.
