Lucknow: The Election Commission on Monday reviewed preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections across 18 districts in the Meerut, Saharanpur, Moradabad and Aligarh divisions, directing officials to strengthen electoral roll verification, security arrangements and polling infrastructure.
Rinwa directed district election officers to recheck all Forms 6, 7 and 8 entered by computer assistants since the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). He also ordered a fresh examination of rejected Form 6 applications to ensure that eligible citizens are not excluded from electoral rolls. Special enrolment drives will be conducted in Classes 11 and 12, and in degree colleges, to register first-time voters.
The meeting, held at Urja Bhawan in Meerut, was chaired by deputy election commissioner Manish Garg in the presence of UP chief electoral officer Navdeep Rinwa and senior administrative and police officials. Garg directed officials to verify absent, shifted, duplicate and deceased (ASDD) voters, ensure minimum facilities at polling stations, and launch EVM awareness programmes. He also emphasised coordination among neighbouring districts and strict monitoring of illegal liquor movement, including checks at distillery entry and exit points.
