Two road crashes claim 3 lives in Khajuri Khas, Mukundpur

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: Three people were killed and two others critically injured in two separate road accidents involving trucks in north Delhi, police said Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Santosh (30) and Pawan (33), both employees at a wholesale grocery store in Sonia Vihar. Police received a call about the accident at 11.55 pm. Akash (19) died in the crash, while Rohit (24) and Piyush (26) sustained serious injuries.

The truck driver fled the spot after the crash, police said. Passers-by attempted to catch the truck driver, but he switched off the vehicle and fled, according to police. Police said forensic teams inspected the accident site and the truck was seized. Police said only one helmet was found at the scene.

In the first incident, two men died after the scooty they were riding collided with a concrete-mixer truck in Khajuri Khas late Monday night. The shop had remained open late as it was scheduled to remain closed the next day, and the two were returning home after shutting it when the accident occurred. Both victims lived in Khajuri Colony and were originally from Bihar. On reaching the spot, officers found that Santosh had already been taken to JPC Hospital by family members, while Pawan was shifted there by police. Doctors declared both men dead. Their bodies were later sent to GTB Hospital for post-mortem examination. In the second incident, a dumper truck allegedly hit a motorcycle carrying three men near Mukundpur flyover. The three men worked for a quick-commerce platform and were returning from their office in Ghaziabad when the accident took place.
