SIT moves court to add fresh charges against Indranil Sen — Puja pass scam

Kolkata: Singer and former state minister Indranil Sen, arrested for allegedly siphoning off crores of rupees through the sale of Durga Puja passes, landed in further trouble on Tuesday after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case approached a court seeking to add two charges against him.

Police moved Bankshall Court seeking the inclusion of Sections 2 and 9 of the West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order Act in the FIR.

“The allegation of unlawfully acquiring money and assets can be brought under Section 2 of the amended law, while Section 9 provides for punishment in such cases,” a Kolkata Police officer said. During questioning, Sen reportedly told investigators that deposits in his five bank accounts were proceeds from stage performances and musical events. Police said they may issue a fresh notice if she fails to respond.

Sen is accused of illegally amassing money and property and diverting funds through multiple bank accounts. However, police found the balances in these accounts unusually low and suspect that the money may have been transferred elsewhere. Sen has denied any wrongdoing.

Investigators have traced around 20 accounts linked to Sen, his family members, firms and associates, through which crores were allegedly transacted. The state had earlier told the Calcutta High Court that a Rs 53.4-crore tender awarded to GD Creation saw Rs 50.3 crore transferred to Third Line Creation, while other payments went to firms allegedly controlled by Sen’s daughter. The state cited transactions totalling Rs 1.3 crore involving these entities.

His wife Madhucchanda has also been questioned.
