CM Suvendu Adhikari
Kolkata: With Bengal lagging behind other states in rolling out Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar & Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) VB-G RAM G (125-day rural employment) scheme, CM Suvendu Adhikari will step in to accelerate its execution. The state panchayats and rural development (P&RD) department has drawn up a mission-mode action plan to speed up the centrally sponsored programme, targeting 30 crore person-days in the current financial year against 50 lakh achieved so far. The meeting will outline a roadmap to clear bottlenecks and expedite the scheme, launched on July 1, by identifying administrative and infrastructural hurdles.
Nabanna sources said the chief minister met top state administrative secretaries last week, expressing strong dissatisfaction with the pace of rural employment initiatives and warning that negligence in executing govt projects would not be tolerated. Alongside P&RD minister Dilip Ghosh and department MoS Shantanu Pramanik, the CM will scrutinise district performance reports. He will seek explanations from block development officers (BDOs) on district-level project progress, slow execution in certain blocks and unmet targets. The state govt also plans to coordinate with multiple departments to expand employment-generating activities.
Sources said Adhikari will preside over a high-level administrative meeting at Panchayat Bhavan in Bidhannagar on Wednesday.
