New Delhi: An electric toy, which allegedly led to a short circuit while charging, caused a fire inside a house in northeast Delhi’s Vivek Vihar Tuesday.
The couple, Anil (65) and Beena Arora (60), lived on the first floor of the four-storeyed building.
The other floors of the building were occupied by relatives of the couple, who escaped as soon as the fire broke out, said police. They own a tent-setup business and work out of their office in Savita Vihar market.
Fire officials received a call at 8.11 am, following which four tenders were dispatched to the spot. The blaze was brought under control by 9.30 am. The couple were taken to a hospital by family members before rescue personnel arrived. Investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire. Last month, a fire broke out in a shoe-making factory in northwest Delhi’s Mangolpuri, killing four workers trapped inside and injuring two others. The deceased had been working in the factory for over a decade.
