JP Nadda Keshav Prasad Maurya and Jayant Chaudhary in Bareilly
The PCC committees in 1946 nominated Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, with the understanding that he would be the first prime minister of independent India, but Jawaharlal Nehru was appointed to the post, and they are talking about vote chori,” he said.
Meerut: Union health minister JP Nadda on Tuesday said the Opposition was indulging in “hit-and-run politics” and that they themselves had introduced electronic voting machines (EVMs) but are now questioning their credibility after losing elections. He said this at a BJP rally in Bareilly, held as part of the party’s “Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao” (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) campaign. “They introduced EVMs instead of ballot papers, and now, after losing, they call EVMs hacked,” Nadda said. Referring to the Emergency, Nadda said India was known as the “mother of democracy” and that the Election Commission and Supreme Court had earned global standing. He alleged that some “irresponsible parties”, particularly the INDIA bloc, were trying to undermine public trust in the Election Commission.
Targeting the Congress, he accused the party of questioning the electoral process despite its own history. “They haven’t read their history.
RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary described the Opposition as “a group of mimics”, and termed its recent rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan “a big drama”. Reciting lines by poet Jaun Elia, he said some people were “jealous” of the country’s progress and NDA’s strength.
