Belagavi : A court in Belagavi has sentenced a 40-year-old man to three years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for snatching a gold chain from an elderly woman more than a decade ago.
The Second JMFC Court convicted Bharat Raichurkar in connection with a chain-snatching incident reported on April 21, 2014. Judge Guruprasad S delivered the verdict, sentencing the accused to three years in prison along with a fine of Rs 10,000. Stay updated with the latest Hubballi news.
The accused visited Mallikarjun Boarding on Mahadwar Road and snatched a gold chain from Mahadevi Basappa Gadibidi, the elderly owner of the mess, while she was returning after lunch, according to the prosecution. He then fled the spot. Following the incident, the victim’s son, Mahantesh Gadibidi, lodged a complaint with Market police station. Police registered a case, investigated the matter and later filed a chargesheet against the accused. Govt prosecutor Mahantesh Chalakoppa represented the prosecution. Download the TOI App.
After a prolonged trial, the court found Raichurkar guilty and pronounced the sentence on Monday.
