Doctor suspended in Kannauj
Kanpur: A govt hospital doctor was suspended on Tuesday for allegedly demanding Rs 5,000 to administer anaesthesia to a pregnant woman and sending her back without the injection when her family failed to pay.
Dr Ravindra Kumar of Kannauj District Hospital allegedly demanded the money from the woman’s husband after she arrived at the hospital for childbirth, according to reports. Arun said corruption and negligence towards patients would not be tolerated under the Yogi Adityanath govt. He said govt hospitals were responsible for providing quality healthcare services and that strict action would be taken against anyone found negligent or involved in corrupt practices.
Her family later took her to Rajkiya Medical College, where she safely delivered her baby following a surgery. The woman’s husband lodged a complaint with Social Welfare Minister Aseem Arun, who brought the matter to the notice of the deputy chief minister. Following the complaint, the state govt suspended the doctor.
