Kanpur: Police on Monday inspected Haris Gun House on Meston Road after its name surfaced

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kanpur: Police on Monday inspected Haris Gun House on Meston Road after its name surfaced in a weapons and illegal cartridge smuggling case being investigated in Jaunpur.

Gupta said Haris Gun House sold 153 new and used firearms between April 1 and Sept 30, 2026, under the safe-custody provision. During questioning, the accused allegedly revealed that the weapons and ammunition had been procured from Haris Gun House, an arms dealership in Kanpur.

A five-member gang arrested in Jaunpur was found with a large cache of cartridges along with locally made and foreign-made firearms, according to DCP East Satyajit Gupta. Officials said only a detailed examination of all records related to the weapons kept in safe custody would determine which transactions were legal and whether any illegal sales took place. The provision allows one licensed arms dealer to store weapons with another licensed dealer while continuing to procure fresh stock. Records indicate that Haris Gun House made most of its sales in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and other states. Police are now tracing and verifying every weapon and cartridge linked to the dealership.

A Jaunpur police team visited Kanpur on Saturday and took shop operator Abbas Ali for questioning.
