Three-year-old falls to death at under-construction building in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad : A 3-year-old boy died after falling from the second floor of an under-construction building in Vastral on Monday, raising concerns about safety measures for children of construction workers living at such sites.

He was playing at the construction site behind the Reliance petrol pump in Vastral when the accident happened, according to police. The child, son of Vikesh Gameti, was staying with his parents on the third floor of Block B in Shrimad Elegance.

The family is originally from Boraka Pani village in Rajasthan’s Dungarpur district. The tragedy has once again drawn attention to the living conditions and safety of labourers and their families at construction sites. Workers often reside at or near their workplaces, while children remain vulnerable to accidents in the absence of dedicated safe spaces. Labour welfare norms require construction establishments to provide crèche facilities for workers’ children.

He was rushed to GCS Hospital near Chamunda Bridge in Asarwa, where he died during treatment at 2.15pm on Monday. Ramol police registered a case of accidental death and launched an inquiry.
