Aswani reached the office around 6 pm and identified himself as the accused

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Ahmedabad: A man accused in a cheating case allegedly tore his clothes and created a ruckus at the detection of crime branch (DCB) office in Gaekwad Haveli on Monday after police asked him to submit identity documents and case-related evidence for a probe by the economic offence wing (EOW).

Aswani reached the office around 6 pm and identified himself as the accused.

In a complaint, a police inspector from the EOW’s New Cloth Market unit said Aswani was directed to remain present at the DCB office with identity proof, details and evidence of goods allegedly purchased from the complainant, bank statements and other documents needed for the investigation. When asked to produce the documents, he allegedly said he had brought only the anticipatory bail order and declined to submit other papers, insisting that police should mark his presence as compliance with the court’s order. Police said his actions obstructed the official process and hindered the investigation.

A complaint was lodged against him on Monday.

Indrakumar Aswani (46), a resident of Geetapark Society in Kubernagar, had secured anticipatory bail from City and Civil Court at Bhadra in a case registered under BNS. The complaint stated that around 7:30 pm, Aswani got agitated, argued with the inspector and allegedly tore his own clothes. He also threatened to call the media and shouted, allegedly in an attempt to stop officers from questioning him and proceeding with the investigation.
