Madurai : The principal district court in Tuticorin on Tuesday acquitted DMK MLA and former minister Anitha R Radhakrishnan and six family members in a disproportionate assets case registered nearly 20 years ago. Judge S Subadevi acquitted all seven accused after holding that the prosecution had failed to establish the charges with sufficient evidence.

Directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) registered the case in 2006, alleging that Radhakrishnan accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income while serving as a minister in the AIADMK government between 2001 and 2006. The prosecution alleged that he and his family members possessed disproportionate assets worth approximately Rs2.08 crore. During the trial, the prosecution examined 79 witnesses and submitted 312 documents. The defence examined six witnesses and produced 74 documents. He joined the DMK in 2009.
