Kankaria lake
More than 350 life jackets will be available at the lake. An emergency response centre with a 360-degree view has been set up.
AMC standing committee chairman Kamlesh Patel said surveillance and emergency response have been stepped up using CCTV and body cameras. Round-the-clock ambulance services, walkie-talkies and a public announcement system have also been arranged. Here, Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services personnel will monitor CCTV footage. Safety signboards listing dos and don’ts have also been installed, while fire department staff will remain available to respond to emergencies.
Boating on Kankaria lake had remained suspended since the Jan 2024 Harni lake tragedy in Vadodara, in which 12 children and two teachers died after a boat carrying schoolchildren capsized. The incident prompted Gujarat govt to introduce a comprehensive boating policy and standard operating procedure (SOP) to strengthen safety at recreational facilities at water bodies across the state.
