Three-year-old girl undergoes surgery at Ahmedabad civil hospital: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

A three-year-old girl from Kutch was seriously injured after a pair of scissors became embedded in her chest while she was playing with her five-year-old brother. She was initially taken to a private hospital and later shifted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for specialised treatment.

A careful surgical procedure was therefore required to remove it,” said Dr Rakesh Joshi, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital.

Doctors said the scissors could not be removed without surgery as any attempt to extract it without a proper procedure could have caused severe injury to the girl’s windpipe and other vital structures. “The scissors was lodged in an area where it could have injured internal organs, including the windpipe, lungs and ribcage. It could also have caused excessive bleeding. The medical team successfully removed the scissors during surgery. The girl is currently stable and under observation at the hospital.
