Udupi: A 38-year-old hotelier from Vaderahobli in Kundapur lodged a complaint on Tuesday, alleging that a woman and two others cheated him of Rs 5.8 lakh by promising to double his investment through lucrative money-making schemes.
Believing her assurances, he transferred Rs 3.7 lakh in instalments through PhonePe to the bank account of the second accused, Akshatha Devadiga of Saligrama, between Jan 21 and May 23, 2025, as instructed by Jyothi. The accused allegedly received a total of Rs 5.8 lakh from him through bank transfers and cash.
The complainant had been running a hotel business in Kota for several years, during which he became acquainted with the first accused, Jyothi , a resident of Basrur village in Kundapur, according to the complaint. Jyothi allegedly gained his confidence by claiming that she could facilitate various financial transactions and had schemes through which his money could be doubled. Jyothi reportedly assured him that his investment would be doubled, along with profits, within a short period and subsequently sought more money from him.
