Marking the celebrations leading up to 250 years of American independence, the US Consulate General in Kolkata brought the US Navy’s Seventh Fleet Band, Orient Express, to the city for a series of musical performances from October 11 to 13.
The ensemble, comprising professional US Navy musicians, treated audiences to a diverse repertoire of contemporary and classic popular music, spanning rock, pop, jazz and other genres. During its Kolkata tour, the band performed at the Calcutta School of Music and Kolkata Centre for Creativity, besides taking the stage at the US Consulate General’s National Day Reception. Beyond its musical performances, Orient Express plays an important role in the US Navy’s regional engagement initiatives, participating in concerts, cultural festivals, community gatherings and military programmes across the region. Using music as a medium of cultural exchange, the ensemble aims to foster goodwill, strengthen people-to-people connections and build friendships between the US and partner countries such as India.
