John Cena appeared on the November 2 episode of RAW to officially kick off the event festivities. He announced that The John Cena Classic is set to happen at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, located within Disney World, on December 14. After John Cena’s appearance on RAW, Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE had to reconsider the original idea: letting fans vote to crown the winner, even if they didn’t win. “ As John Cena revealed during his RAW appearance, only fans who are part of Club WWE can cast their vote on their app for The John Cena Classic.
He said, “Yeah, it’s probably, it’s probably a tournament. The WWE Universe is set to witness one of the most exciting and unique events, The John Cena Classic. Named after The Greatest of All Time, John Cena , it will feature a series of exhibition matches between WWE and NXT superstars and will see the coronation of a champion. Not only that, the fans will have a major role in determining certain outcomes of the competition, with John Cena kicking off the event festivities recently. It will be part of the second RAW that WWE will broadcast after the RAW in Perth, Australia. The John Cena Classic winner will get a brand new championship belt. During Cena’s latest appearance on RAW, he unveiled the title, which was similar to his iconic spinner WWE Championship belt. However, the company later found that the idea had many flaws and such way matches could not be planned, so they had to make changes to the concept. I mean, the original idea was to do a tournament and the fans would vote for who wins, not the person who necessarily wins the match. So you would, you would, you would be, you advance by fan voting during the show. That was the original idea. And then people poked many flaws in this thing and it was like, kind of like, oh, we didn’t think about this and it was going to be reconsidered, what they were going to do.
