With the holiday season right around the corner, this thoughtful act of kindness means so much to our pantry and the community we serve. Thank you, Matthew, for thinking of our community and helping us head into the holiday season on such a wonderful note! The West Valley Food Pantry combats hunger by providing food and supportive services to individuals and families in need in the San Fernando Valley. The organization operates a drive-through food pantry five days a week. It relies on grocery partners, donors, staff members, and volunteers to keep its kind services running. Within five minutes, each person is provided with a full week’s worth of groceries for their household. It also provides shelf stable food for people experiencing homelessness that visit the West Valley Food Pantry. West Valley Food Pantry ensures that no one in its community faces hunger. It also encourages individuals and groups to participate through volunteering, food drives, and financial contributions.

As per a 2021 food insecurity report, nearly 516,000 households in Los Angeles struggle to put food on their table and nearly 95,000 of those are in the San Fernando Valley – more than any other region. West Valley Food Pantry serves 93% of the people who live in the San Fernando Valley and those who are local to the pantry. 900,000 pounds of groceries were handed out to individuals and families in 2024, 97,000 individuals were served in 2024, and more than 600 low income seniors received grocery delivery from the pantry monthly. Matthew and Kelly Stafford supported Forgotten Harvest and the Detroit Public Schools Community District by committing $100,000 during the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. The partnership included $5,000 credits to each participating restaurant, thereby helping provide access to meals for healthcare employees and emergency personnel during the difficult pandemic time. The NFL quarterback explained then that he and his wife wanted to support the community that had been their home for 12 long years – back when Matthew played for the Detroit Lions. We’re trying to help out what is home to us, and what’s been home to us for 12 years.

“Kelly and I feel really blessed to be in the situation we’re in,” Stafford said in 2020. The NFL power couple’s latest community effort also fits into their long history of charitable involvement. They partnered with four restaurants – Slow’s to Go, Zingerman’s Deli, Wahlburger’s and Roadside B&G – to arrange meals for hospital workers and first responders.
