Kolkata: State govt aims to provide permanent govt jobs to one lakh unemployed youths by May 8, when it completes one year in office, CM Suvendu Adhikari said on Wednesday, while reiterating alleged irregularities and procedural lapses that took place during the previous regime. Adhikari was addressing a recruitment programme at Nabanna Sabhaghar, where appointment letters were handed over to 149 newly recruited cooperative inspectors. Earlier in the day, he announced the recruitment of 7,190 personnel in the panchayat department by April 2027. The CM said the new govt is already in the process of recruiting 63,496 candidates across various departments. Of these, 60,838 appointments are to permanent posts, he said. The CM added that the govt would also make 1,000 temporary appointments in the panchayat department. Accusing the previous govt of corruption, the CM said, “Aadhaar-based KYC verification had led to the cancellation of 31 lakh fake job cards, whose holders had allegedly withdrawn funds. Regarding construction of houses under PM Awaas, Adhikari said 54 lakh beneficiaries had been initially identified but the number came down to 47 lakh following verification.

Referring to the recruitment in the panchayat department, Adhikari said the new posts would be created through legislation during a special session of the assembly. “New rules will be introduced to ensure transparency, and the Public Service Commission will conduct the recruitment,” he said. He promised to complete construction of houses under the scheme in the next two financial years.
