Hyderabad: Agriculture director B Gopi has written to Telangana cybercrime wing seeking an investigation into unauthorised SMS messages relating to Rythu Bharosa sent to over 2.7 lakh farmers.
Citing a CDAC portal report dated Nov 4, he flagged the possibility of unauthorised access, misuse of the department’s name or misuse of SMS communication channels.
He said the department had been using CDAC SMS service portal to send official communications to farmers, but had not initiated any transmission of messages of this nature. In the letter, Gopi clarified that the agriculture department had neither initiated nor authorised any such SMS communication to farmers. Gopi requested cybercrime officials to investigate the source and origin of messages and identify the agency, individual or entity responsible for sending them. He also sought examination of possible unauthorised access to CDAC SMS service portal or any other SMS gateway. He asked officials to trace technical details, including SMS gateway, sender ID, transmission logs and related IP addresses, wherever available, and take legal action against those responsible.
