The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hyderabad: A man went on a stabbing spree following a marital dispute with his wife, killing two people and critically injuring another in Meerpet on Wednesday afternoon.

The accused, Siddique , attacked his mother-in-law, Niranjan Bi (62), and brother-in-law’s wife, Reshma (35), with a knife at their residence, according to Meerpet police. Following the attack, Siddique fled the scene, and police launched a search to trace him.

The accused attacked the victims who were on the ground floor, while his wife was on the first floor at the time of the incident,” Meerpet inspector B Shobhan told TOI. However, Siddique did not turn up,” police said. Both women died on the spot. Reshma’s husband, Mohammed Younus, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. “Siddique came to Niranjan Bi’s house and attacked the victims indiscriminately with a knife. He had a strained relationship with his wife, and the victims had supported her. The house had a ground floor and a first floor. “Since it was a marital dispute, we asked the couple to attend counselling. Police are also probing the angle of the accused’s harassment of Reshma, suspecting that it could have been one of the reasons behind the dispute between him and his wife. Police have registered a murder case and are investigating the incident.

There were allegations of police inaction over a complaint lodged by the victims earlier that day. Siddique had previously worked as an electrician in Saudi Arabia. Police said Siddique’s wife, accompanied by the victims, had approached them with a complaint against him on Wednesday.
