Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati will be the chief guest at the party’s tribute programme on Dec 6, marking the Mahaparinirvan Diwas (death anniversary) of Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar at Samajik Parivartan Sthal in Lucknow. During the meeting, party leaders requested Mayawati to lead the annual tribute function, a proposal she accepted. The announcement was made during a meeting of the BSP’s Uttar Pradesh unit held in Lucknow on Thursday to review preparations for the upcoming assembly elections.

Earlier reporting noted: The party will also aim to win the support of Gen Z to regain lost ground in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, she said. Earlier reporting noted: Mayawati will launch her assembly poll campaign on December 6, the death anniversary of Bhim Rao Ambedkar by addressing a rally at the Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Memorial in Lucknow.

Addressing party leaders, Mayawati said the BSP’s objective remained strengthening the self-respect and dignity of the Bahujan community and advancing the mission of ‘Our Vote, Our Rule’ through democratic means. She directed party functionaries to address organisational shortcomings within a fixed timeframe and work with full dedication towards forming a BSP govt in Uttar Pradesh for the fifth time. The former chief minister also raised concerns about what she described as the absence of a fully reliable, independent and impartial electoral system. She reiterated the BSP’s long-standing opposition to the criminalisation of politics, politicisation of crime, and the alleged misuse of money power, muscle power and govt machinery during elections. Mayawati renewed the party’s concerns over Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), saying many citizens were seeking a return to ballot-paper voting. She linked issues such as poverty, unemployment, migration driven by economic hardship, examination irregularities and corruption to shortcomings in the electoral system, describing them as growing concerns, particularly among the youth. Targeting the Congress, Samajwadi Party and BJP, Mayawati alleged that these parties had failed to adequately implement the welfare-oriented principles of the Constitution. She claimed the interests of Dalits, Adivasis, OBCs, minorities, farmers, workers, women and youth were best protected under BSP rule and asserted that public dissatisfaction with mainstream parties was increasing across the state.

Earlier reporting noted: She was addressing party leaders and office bearers in a meeting at the BSP state unit office in Lucknow to review assembly poll preparations.
