Prayagraj: MNNIT scholar Arpit Dubey is working on an AI-based tool that can create 3D digital reconstruction of crime scenes from photos and videos. The tool will allow police to examine evidence and recreate the sequence of events in a virtual environment.Dubey, a PhD scholar in Computer Science, has launched a startup ‘Tech and Forensic’ for this. It is incubated at MNNIT’s Innovation and Incubation Hub under the guidance of Prof. Divya Kumar.

The reconstructed scene can then be viewed through virtual reality, enabling investigators to digitally examine the surroundings and the placement of objects from different perspectives. The technology could help investigators analyse possible sequences of events and focus on clues that may otherwise be difficult to understand from conventional photographs or videos. It could also allow investigators to revisit a digitally reconstructed crime scene without having to rely solely on their memory or repeatedly examine the original location. Download the TOI App.
