Kolkata: After waiting for more than three and a half years hoping to return to their workplaces, about 1,000 staffers from the 2016 recruitment panel who lost their jobs after a Supreme Court order failed to clear written exams conducted by West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC). About 6.8 lakh candidates appeared in the Group-C written exam on March 1, while 8 lakh took the Group-D written test on March 8. Among them, more than 3,000 candidates from the 2016 recruitment panel had lost their govt jobs after working for seven years. About 1,000 of these candidates failed to clear the written tests, missing their last chance to reclaim their jobs.

Amit Mandal, a member of Staffers Rights Forum, said: “It’s very unfortunate that such a huge number of our fellow protesters lost their last hope and failed to make it to the preliminary list published by SSC. Jobless Group-C and Group-D staffers are upset over the results. Results were declared on Thursday night.

From the very beginning, we demanded a separate exam for us because, with our current mental strain, it wasn’t an easy task to compete with freshers, and our fears have come true. Because those who were found to be tainted were barred from writing the tests.”, all the candidates from the 2016 panel got their jobs based on merit,. Even many of us who have cleared the exam are at the bottom of the list, and following the next level of competency tests, many of them might be knocked out of the race. We are urging the state government to look into this matter.
