Ahmedabad: Two men were arrested on Friday for allegedly impersonating Ellisbridge MLA Amit Shah and pressuring a Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) official to approve a licence for a healthcare firm.
The complaint was filed by Shah, 67, after he learnt that someone had called a drug inspector Parth Patel in Gandhinagar claiming to be him, and questioning why the licence of Pulse Healthcare had not been approved. The incident took place on Oct 29, according to the FIR. During the investigation, police traced the call to Vinay Kotar, 19, who was staying at a paying guest accommodation near Gandhigram railway station in Ahmedabad. Kotar allegedly told police that he had made the call at the behest of his associate Rajnik Paradava, 34, who runs a consultancy firm.
The investigation revealed that Kotar had made the call after being instructed by Paradava, police said.
The caller allegedly said he wanted the licence cleared. Later, assistant commissioner S N Gadhvi contacted Shah and asked whether he had called Patel regarding the licence. Gadhvi also shared a call recording of the conversation with the MLA. Police arrested both men and seized two mobile phones allegedly used in the offence.
Shah denied making any such call and lodged a complaint with Vasna police on Wednesday.
