The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Nagpur/Bhopal: A 52-year-old National Cadet Corps (NCC) teacher from Nagpur died after falling nearly 150 feet into a gorge at the popular Priyadarshini Viewpoint in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday morning while chasing a monkey that had snatched a bag belonging to a schoolgirl.

As per Pachmarhi police station in-charge Gopal Ghasle, the group reached Priyadarshini Viewpoint, also known as Forsyth Point, around 6:45 am. The body was located and brought up on a stretcher at around 9:30 am. He approached the edge of the hillock but lost his balance and fell into the deep gorge,” said Ghasle.

The Priyadarshini point is typically known to pack in early visitors to catch the sunrise. “A monkey suddenly snatched a girl’s bag and ran away. Nayak reportedly chased the animal and climbed over the safety railing. Police personnel, assisted by local residents, had to trek nearly three kilometres through rugged terrain to reach the spot where Nayak had fallen.

The freak accident occurred in front of around 20 schoolchildren and family members of the teacher, turning what was supposed to be a memorable sunrise excursion into a horrifying experience.
