Lucknow: In a bid to identify eligible citizens missing from electoral rolls ahead of the 2027 assembly elections, the Uttar Pradesh election machinery will organise special voter registration camps at industrial establishments, corporate workplaces, residential societies and construction sites across the state.
Chief electoral officer Navdeep Rinwa on Friday directed all district election officers to involve public and private sector enterprises, resident welfare associations (RWAs), trade unions, bar associations, medical organisations and civil defence volunteers in the ongoing Special Summary Revision (SSR) 2027.
Rinwa said current and former village pradhans, municipal councillors, social workers and prominent citizens would be roped in to identify eligible residents who remain unregistered. Under the initiative, special camps will be organised at public sector undertakings and industrial establishments to facilitate enrolment of eligible employees. RWAs will help identify new residents, first-time voters and eligible citizens whose names are missing from electoral rolls in apartment complexes, housing societies and residential colonies. Civil defence volunteers will help identify eligible voters in densely populated urban neighbourhoods and slum settlements. District election officers have been instructed to coordinate with these organisations and arrange camps on special campaign days and other suitable occasions to maximise enrolment.
