Because they could unexpectedly retract due to faulty locks, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an alert notifying consumers across America that 3.6 million ladders are being recalled.
Warning comes after a number of people sustained broken bones, brain damage and other injuries, according to reports.
If a lock does not function properly after this evaluation, the company will offer the choice of a replacement ladder of the same or equivalent model or a refund ranging from a depreciated value determined by date of purchase up to full purchase price for ladders purchased within the past 12 months,” said the USCPC on its page. The CPSC says the following models of Little Giant ladders are being recalled: Adjustable Fortress 2.0, Conquest 2.0, Dark Horse 2.0, Epic, King Kombo XT, Leveler, MegaLite, MegaLite+, Multi, Quantum and Vector. “Consumers should stop using the recalled ladders immediately until they review the information at http://www.littlegiantladders.com/pages/recalls or via the QR code on the ladder and contact Little Giant for a repair kit containing warning labels and instructions. The additional instructions and labels, which should be affixed to the ladder, advise consumers to verify that their Rapid Locks are properly engaged before every use and to maintain their locks with lubrication. Consumers who follow the provided instructions and have a Rapid Lock that does not function properly after the application of lubrication should contact Little Giant for evaluation. US CPSC has published a recall notice warning consumers that approximately 3,662,000 (3.6 million) ladders made by Little Giant Ladder Systems were being recalled after the company received several reports of the ladders unexpectedly retracting, causing serious injuries to users. As per the consumer body, the 3.6 million-plus ladders included in this recall were sold nationally between December 2015 and October 2026. The ladders sold are priced anywhere from around $100 to around $1,000.
The CPSC’s notice says that the Rapid Locks are black or orange components on the ladders’ legs, designed to be inserted to adjust the ladders’ height. As per CPSC’s warning to buyers: “Ladders can suddenly retract if the Rapid Locks are not fully engaged, posing a fall hazard to consumers. ” The faulty ladders have been sold on Lowes, Amazon, Costco, LittleGiantLadders and other websites. When the Rapid Locks don’t work as intended, the ladders can suddenly retract, causing the user to fall and sustain serious injuries. Little Giant has also published its own recall notice, in which the ladder manufacturer warns of the same hazard.
