The Star Trek actor Chris Pine sued a Brooklyn developer over a $100,000 rental deposit; the actor

The Star Trek actor is seeking to recover $100,000 that he says remains with the developer despite the agreement falling apart before a lease was signed. Actor Chris Pine has become involved in a property dispute in Brooklyn after a proposed rental arrangement for a luxury townhouse failed to reach the contract stage. The property, a renovated 19th-century home in the Cobble Hill neighbourhood, had been discussed as a short-term furnished rental. Pine had already transferred money towards the proposed arrangement, but negotiations over the lease did not produce an agreement. The developer’s legal representatives have disputed the account presented in the complaint, describing the matter as a private contractual disagreement.

The actor is now seeking the remaining $100,000, which represents the other two payments connected with the proposed tenancy. An important part of Pine’s legal argument is that he never signed a completed rental contract.

Those proposed changes were not accepted by the developer, according to the filing. He said Saavedra was confident the matter would be resolved through the appropriate legal channels. The pet deposit has since been returned. His lawsuit also seeks damages and reimbursement of legal costs. Pine’s complaint describes a disagreement over the wording of the proposed lease. The actor had reportedly made handwritten changes to the standard rental agreement presented by Saavedra, suggesting amendments to the terms before committing to the arrangement. The parties subsequently failed to settle on a final version of the lease. The complaint maintains that the intended tenancy did not come into existence, as no final agreement was reached and the actor never took possession of the property. It also argues that the planned rental period would not begin under those circumstances. Pine’s latest legal dispute arose while he was reportedly in New York working on a film project titled The Catch, alongside Emma Stone.

Chris Pine has faced an earlier property-related lawsuit

In 2022, the actor’s then-neighbour, music attorney Helen Yu, brought a lawsuit over several ficus Benjamina trees planted in the garden of his Los Angeles home. He also owns a home in the Los Feliz neighbourhood, which he purchased in 2010 from actor Jason Lee. The property has remained part of his reported Los Angeles real estate holdings.

The Brooklyn dispute is not the first time Pine has been involved in a legal disagreement concerning a residential property. Yu alleged that the trees had invasive roots that were causing damage and other problems on her property.
