After washroom fight, man jumps onto tracks to stop Mumbai local train; fellow passenger pulls him

On November 6, chaos nearly unfolded at Vikhroli station when a man threatened to halt an incoming train following an argument with another person

The incident occurred around 10.15am on November 6 after an altercation between the two men inside a washroom on platform 2/3. They were identified as Mukesh Panchal (23), who works as a hamal, and Hrishikesh Vasant Potekar (29), a resident of Kalyan.

A pointman alerted on-duty personnel, police havaldar Rathod and constable Borase, about the altercation, according to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The Government Railway Police (GRP) said Panchal frequently got into arguments with passengers and stall operators and allegedly threatened to stop trains by entering the tracks. They subsequently apologised to each other and left, the RPF said.

A video of the incident, in which the man he had quarrelled with pulls him away from the tracks as a local train approaches, has gone viral on social media. The intervention helped avert a possible tragedy. When they reached the spot, Panchal had entered the tracks after threatening to stop a train. RPF personnel, along with housekeeping staff and passengers, helped bring him to safety. Both men were brought to the Vikhroli railway police chowky and advised to approach the Kurla GRP to lodge a complaint. However, neither wished to file a complaint, either orally or in writing.
