Fire broke out in auto-parts shop in Kanpur

Kanpur: A fire suspected to have been caused by a short circuit destroyed goods worth around Rs 30 lakh at an auto parts shop in Kanpur’s Bajaria area early Saturday. Ashish Gupta, owner of New Quality Auto Parts opposite Karodimal Park, said he had closed the shop around 10 pm on Friday, according to information. The fire broke out at around 1 am and intensified after coming into contact with engine oil and plastic parts stored inside the shop.

Local residents alerted Gupta, who lives directly above the shop, and initially tried to extinguish the blaze with the help of neighbours. However, the fire continued to spread and also engulfed a scooter parked inside. The flames threatened nearby shops, triggering panic among shopkeepers in the area. Gupta then informed the Bajaria police and the fire brigade. ACP Sisamau Anand Ojha and three fire tenders from the Colonelganj and Latouche Road fire stations rushed to the spot.
