Gauba was seen walking through the busy markets of Old Lucknow, stopping at different points to speak to citizens, listen to their concerns and reassure them about their safety during the festive season.
“The police commissioner’s approach of combining conventional security patrolling with direct interaction with citizens is significant at a time when festive policing is often associated primarily with barricading, deployment and surveillance,” said Vikas Mehrotra, a trader from Chowk. By personally meeting people on the streets, greeting shopkeepers and enquiring about their welfare, Gauba has sought to reinforce the idea that policing is not limited to law enforcement but also involves trust-building, accessibility and public participation, Lucknow Police said. LUCKNOW: Moving beyond conventional police patrolling and security inspections, Lucknow police commissioner Tarun Gauba has adopted a citizen-centric approach by walking through crowded marketplaces, interacting with shopkeepers and members of the public, greeting people and enquiring about their well-being ahead of Diwali. The initiative combines security surveillance with direct public engagement, going beyond routine foot patrolling, during which senior police officers generally inspect security arrangements before moving on. Accompanied by senior police officers and a sizeable police contingent, Gauba began his foot patrol from Koneshwar Crossing and proceeded through Chowk Crossing towards the prominent bullion market and the main commercial market. During the walk, Gauba inspected security arrangements, assessed police deployment and traffic management, while also interacting with traders and members of the public. He enquired about their well-being, sought feedback on local security arrangements and assured them that the police would remain alert and accessible throughout the festive period.
