They alleged that illegal sand extraction is widespread in several parts of the district

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

The movement of heavy vehicles transporting sand illegally is also damaging rural roads and posing a threat to public safety, they said, urging the district administration, police and mines and geology department to conduct joint raids on all unauthorised sand storage and sales centres. Koppal: Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Bhim Marg) has demanded an immediate crackdown on illegal sand mining, unauthorised sand stockyards and sales across Koppal district, warning of a district-wide protest if the authorities fail to take stringent action against those involved. A delegation led by the organisation’s state president M Narayana, and other office-bearers submitted a memorandum to the DC, the SP, and the deputy director of the department of mines and geology. They alleged that illegal sand extraction is widespread in several parts of the district, with unauthorised stockyards and sales centres operating along riverbeds and in rural areas. The illegal trade is causing revenue losses worth crores of rupees to the govt and leading to the exploitation of natural resources.
