Varanasi: Two siblings allegedly drowned in a canal in Mathela village under Balua police station limits in Chahaniya area of Chandauli district on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Kshitij Kushwaha (9) and his four-year-old sister, Sakshi Kushwaha. The siblings were returning home from school when they stopped to play on a makeshift cloth swing tied to a branch of a neem tree near the canal, according to reports. Balua police reached the spot and took the siblings to the Chahaniya Primary Health Centre, where doctors declared them dead. The bodies were later sent for postmortem examination. Tragic Incident Claims Lives of Two Children in Canal

In a tragic incident, two children, Sakshi and Kshitij, drowned after falling into a canal while playing. Kshitij attempted to rescue Sakshi but was swept away along with her. Their sister, Lakshmi, quickly ran home to inform their family.

Upon receiving the news, relatives and villagers immediately rushed to the scene to conduct a search operation. Local officials contacted the irrigation department to halt the canal’s water flow.

After several hours of searching, the bodies of both children were recovered from the canal, bringing a heartbreaking end to the rescue efforts.
