Madurai: In the light of the recent rain and heightened risk of seasonal mosquito-borne diseases, Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) has set up a 40-bed special ward for dengue patients as a precautionary measure.
All 40 beds have mosquito nets to prevent secondary transmission. GRH dean Dr Arul Sundaresh Kumar said, “While Madurai itself may not see as many cases of dengue or other such illness, we receive patients from across several southern districts. A senior corporation official said defogging vehicles will be deployed. A specialized team of doctors and nursing staff has been deployed for round-the-clock duty. Adequate stocks of essential medicines, fluid management supplies, and diagnostic equipment have been secured. The move follows guidelines issued by the health department advising state-run hospitals to establish immediate-response facilities. Dedicated teams will be formed to raise awareness regarding mosquito-borne illnesses and to hold inspections to remove potential mosquito breeding grounds. Download the TOI App.
