The agitators demanded that the procurement price of cow milk be raised to Rs 43 per litre and buffalo milk to Rs 60, while the retail price of Aavin milk be increased by Rs 15. SALEM: The Tamil Nadu Milk Producers’ Welfare Association, along with the Aavin Employees Federation, held a protest at Salem Fort Grounds on Tuesday pressing for an eight-point charter of demands, including a hike in procurement prices of milk.
They sought an annual revision of procurement and sales prices, a 5% margin for society administration expenses and an increase in the govt incentive from Rs 3 to Rs 5 per litre. If the govt does not concede our demands by Aug 23, we will stop milk supply in Tamil Nadu starting Aug 24. He warned that the association would not wait until the dairy subsidy meeting scheduled for Sept 2.

Addressing reporters after the protest, association general secretary M G Rajendran said, “Procurement has already declined. For years, we have been demanding fair prices for milk, but successive govt have failed to act. “The chief minister must immediately accept our demands. Otherwise, we will be forced to intensify our protest,” Rajendran added. Download the TOI App.
