Capable of accommodating 100 cars, the project, set to come up near Edapally Metro station, will share space with an upcoming hotel development. Kochi : Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) is set to launch construction of its second automated MLCP facility at the congested Edapally Junction.
The facility will be open to commuters from 30 minutes before the first train until an hour after the last,” he added. “It will be a similar modern MLCP that will come up near Edapally Metro station.
The project follows KMRL’s first automated MLCP at Vadakkekotta Metro station, a nine-storey, tech-driven structure built to house 100 cars. The secure facility operates under 24/7 CCTV surveillance, reducing the risk of damage or theft while protecting vehicles from extreme weather. Parking costs Rs 20 for Metro commuters for the first two hours and Rs five for each subsequent hour. However, non-commuters will have to pay Rs 60 for the first two hours and Rs 20 for every additional hour. Kochi Corporation will also launch an MLCP near Ernakulam Market complex, that can accommodate 123 cars, and 100 two-wheelers. Railways is also adding major capacity, building a six-storey structure for 110 cars at Ernakulam Town station and a five-storey facility for 90 cars at Ernakulam Junction.

We’re set to start the construction next month,” a senior Metro official said. “While some parking slots will be reserved for hotel guests, the majority will remain accessible to everyday Metro commuters. The parking rates will be the same as those charged at the outside Metro station parking lot. To park, drivers simply leave their vehicles in a designated bay, allowing the robotic system to handle positioning and retrieval. Despite additional electricity costs required to run the automated systems, KMRL has kept tariffs low to encourage public adoption. KMRL is also planning similar MLCP facilities at Aluva and Ernakulam South stations. Download the TOI App.
