Mumbai: Dahisar police registered an FIR against a group of 10 hawkers for manhandling BMC staff who were taking action against unauthorised vending. The case was registered on the basis of a complaint given by Vinayak Kahandal, associated with R-North Ward, Dahisar.
Around 6 pm, Kahandal and four of his colleagues reached Ketkipada, Dahisar East, for action against unauthorised hawkers. A 42-year-old hawker, later identified as Premaram Chaudhary, and a group of eight to nine unknown hawkers entered the BMC’s vehicle forcefully. The team started to remove unauthorised handcarts, vegetable crates and wares, including fruits, vegetables, brooms, etc., into the BMC’s vehicle. They verbally abused Kahandal and his colleagues and roughed them up. They removed the handcarts, vegetable crates and wares from the BMC vehicle. The BMC staff then informed Dahisar police. Chaudhary was detained and hauled to Dahisar police station while the rest fled. Police are looking for the rest.
The incident occurred on Tuesday.
