Kanpur: A 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide at a rented house in Ganga Nagar under the Chakeri police station area on Wednesday morning, police said.

Police said the matter is being investigated, and further action will be taken on the basis of the postmortem report and the allegations made by the family. On receiving information, police reached the spot, took the body into custody, and sent it for postmortem examination. The girl’s brother also levelled serious allegations against a distant cousin from Gujarat, who he alleged had been troubling the girl for the past six months. Download the TOI App.
He said the family had reprimanded the youth about three months ago over his alleged behaviour. The deceased was also preparing for a medical entrance examination, family members said. When family members looked through a window mesh, they found her hanging from a noose.
She went to her room to change clothes on Wednesday morning but did not come out for a long time, according to the girl’s brother.
