In Kanpur, a man impersonating a constable from the Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been accused of deceiving a woman into marriage. Authorities report that he opened three bank accounts in her name, which were subsequently used for transactions linked to cyber fraud. The police announced these developments on Wednesday, highlighting the ongoing investigation into the case.
In her complaint, Chandni Chauhan, a resident of Lavkushpuram in Kalyanpur, alleged that she came into contact with the accused in Jan 2026 through an online matrimonial platform. She said the man introduced himself as Suraj alias Ranveer Singh, claiming to be an RAF constable posted in Delhi, and showed her a fake identity card to establish his credentials. The fraud came to light after the bank accounts were frozen following a cyber crime complaint, prompting the woman to approach the police. The woman alleged that the accused obtained her Aadhaar card, PAN card, and other documents on the pretext of advertisement-related work and subsequently opened three bank accounts in her name. She later discovered that the accounts had allegedly been used for transactions linked to cyber fraud. Acting on the police commissioner’s directions, police registered an FIR against the accused and a few others.
