Nashik: The Nashik district and sessions court on Tuesday sentenced two men to life imprisonment for murdering a 45-year-old tailor in Igatpuri taluka in Nov 2023. District Judge N L More convicted Mahendra Patwardhan Ubale and Yashwant alias Gotya Patwardhan Ubale of Pimpri Sado village under sections 302 (murder) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on each convict. Tailor Sanjay Dahade was killed on Nov 13, 2023, according to a statement by prosecution cell of the Nashik Rural police.

The dispute stemmed from a conflict over two acres of land co-owned by Mohanabai Dahade, Sanjay’s mother, and her late brother, according to court records. The convicts, who are her brother’s sons, had been aggressively demanding that Mohanabai sign a relinquishment deed surrendering her ownership rights to the property. Following the verdict, Nashik Rural superintendent of police D S Swami and additional SP Vimla M lauded the coordinated efforts of the investigating team, prosecution and court conviction cell personnel in securing the conviction.

When the family refused, the accused duo, along with others, allegedly barged into the house of complainant Chitra Dahade, daughter-in-law of Mohanabai, in Pimpri Sado. Armed with axes and iron rods, they smashed doors and windows to gain entry before verbally abusing and confining Chitra and Mohanabai.
