The attack struck 12 locations across the Darnytskyi, Sviatoshynskyi and Solomianskyi districts, including a medical facility and an educational institution. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the overnight assault combined ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones, killing 12 people in Kyiv and one more in the surrounding region, while leaving around 40 others injured.
Emergency workers rescued people from beneath the debris as the air raid alert continued into the early morning, according to the Associated Press (AP). He said Ukraine still lacked sufficient anti-ballistic defences and warned that Patriot interceptors remained urgently needed.
US President Donald Trump had previously authorised Ukraine to obtain licences to produce Patriot air-defence systems before reversing the decision.
