major boost for northeast as Centre approves new Agartala-Guwahati train service

The central government has approved a new railway service that will connect Agartala to Guwahati (Narangi), significantly improving rail access in the Northeast region. This decision comes after ongoing efforts by Biplab Kumar Deb, the former chief minister of Tripura and current Member of Parliament for West Tripura. The new service aims to bolster transportation and economic development in the area.

Sources indicate that the approval was granted following Deb’s consultation with Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on April 22 in New Delhi.

Deb said, “Another achievement. I express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the launch of a new rail service on the Agartala-Guwahati route, respecting the demands of the people of Tripura and prioritising passenger comfort. The discussion centred on improving railway services in Tripura, with Deb emphasising the need for new express trains and infrastructure upgrades. The Railway Ministry promptly approved this proposal and communicated their decision to Deb via official correspondence. Deb extended his appreciation to Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the swift action and for fulfilling the commitments made during their recent discussion.
