A probe into the unusual stickers led officers to a 47-year-old security guard from Telangana . The arrested man, identified as Shaik Yousuf, 47, has been working as a security guard at a commercial establishment in the city for the last few years. Attached to Ashok Nagar police station, he spotted the stickers on Aug 20 while on patrolling duty, according to the complaint filed by constable Jagadish P. Taking technical assistance to trace the accused, the team subsequently used a woman informant to contact the number and gather information about the person behind the stickers on Aug 22. After verifying that he was the person who had pasted the stickers, police detained him around 8.30 pm and questioned him.
He told police if someone had called him for the service, he wanted to ask them to make the payment first to the QR code mentioned in the sticker and later cheat them before meeting. Bengaluru: QR code stickers carrying an explicit advertisement offering women’s services and a phone number appeared on streetlights and CCTV poles near Garuda Mall, drawing the attention of Ashok Nagar police. Police traced the suspect using the number on the stickers and arrested him after laying a trap near the mall. The stickers contained an advertisement offering sexual services along with a QR code and a mobile number. Taking serious note of the stickers and suspecting a flesh trade or fraud, thepolice formed a team to nab the operators. Based on the information received, police tricked him into coming near Garuda Mall later that evening. The accused, Shaik, is a native of Malkajgiri in Hyderabad, Telangana. During interrogation, he confessed that he was hoping to meet good-looking women to provide service and also wanted to make quick money illegally. Police are verifying his bank account to check if he has received money from any women by falsely assuring them of the service.
A case was registered against him under Sections 292 (punishment for public nuisance in cases not otherwise provided for) and 294 (sale, etc., of obscene books, etc.) and investigation is in progress.
