New Delhi: Public Works Department is going to take up repair and rehabilitation work on three key flyovers in Delhi at an estimated cost of around Rs 1.4 crore. The work will focus on replacing worn expansion joints, rectifying bearings and installing a height barrier to improve the safety and riding quality on these flyovers.
85 of the city’s more than 100 flyovers are over a decade old, while 44 structures more than 15 years old have been identified for structural audits and phased repair, according to PWD data. Under the proposed work, existing single-strip seal expansion joints will be dismantled and replaced at all the three flyovers. Expansion joints allow concrete sections to expand and contract with temperature changes and absorb movement caused by traffic. At Nehru Nagar, steel height barriers will also be installed. The repairs come amid a push to maintain Delhi’s ageing flyover network.
