At Andaz Delhi, nearly 87 kg of expired sweets were destroyed on the spot, while flies, cockroaches and an expired cake base were also found. At JW Marriott, inspectors recorded 59 deficiencies, including pest activity, malfunctioning refrigeration, overflowing bins, food stored improperly and a visible particle in drinking water served to customers. Following an FSSAI inspection conducted in June 2026, the hotel reviewed the observations shared, reinforced its food safety and hygiene practices, and submitted its compliance response to the authority.
NEW DELHI: Food Safety and Standards Authority of India ( FSSAI ) on Wednesday said it has issued notices to two five-star hotels in Aerocity — Andaz Delhi, operated by Juniper Hotels, and JW Marriott – over “serious violations” to laws related to food safety and hygiene. We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene and complying with all applicable regulatory requirements. ” “Inspections and sample collection from eateries and other food establishments are carried out throughout the year, with the drives being intensified during festivals and on special occasions when the risk of food adulteration is higher. Food safety officers in the districts lead these drives and the activities are closely monitored at the department level to ensure effective enforcement,” a Delhi govt official said.
During inspections, FSSAI officials found expired food, cockroaches, flies, rotten produce, poor storage practices, improper segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, residue on utensils, and employees handling food without proper hygiene measures.
JW Marriott stated it is committed to ensuring the well-being of its guests. “The hotel maintains rigorous food safety, hygiene and quality standards. We are extending full cooperation to the local authorities as the matter is reviewed, and will take any necessary action based on the findings. Delhi govt has a department of food safety, which regulates and prohibits the manufacture, sale, storage and distribution of food that is unsafe, substandard or misbranded. It conducts surprise checks at food establishments and collects samples of food suspected to be adulterated or substandard. In cases where samples fail to meet prescribed standards, prosecution or penalty proceedings are initiated against the offenders.
